Steward-ownership as part of a European unified legal framework?

At this moment, the EU is developing a new legal form that will allow companies, especially innovative ones, to operate under the same rules across all Member States (the 28th Regime).

In a public consultation, one of the questions being asked is whether an easy choice for Steward-ownership should be part of this legal form. For the movement towards more steward-ownership, this is a huge momentum to create the so-called "28th regime".

Because more and more companies are looking for ways to safeguard their mission, their independence, and their long-term perspective by rethinking their ‘ownership’. The 2 principles of steward-ownership (1 – self-determination, 2 – profit serves purpose) offer an enormous opportunity as a business model for the EU’s innovation strategy. Now that both Germany and the Netherlands are taking steps toward a legal corporate form for steward-ownership, the European momentum is also there.
With steward-ownership embedded in a company’s legal DNA, businesses have self-determination and can build innovative solutions in the long term – while acquisitions for speculative purposes are excluded.
